1 2216784 1 "A fruit-squeezing machine" Sector to which _the subject
relates The sector of auxiliary equipment for cafeterias, bars and other catering establishments, in which the juice of citrus fruit can be extracted rapidly and with complete cleanlinest for immediate consumption directly by the purchasers.
Prior Art
There are numerous machines existing in the market for squeezing out citrus fruit for obtaining the juice for immediate consumption. The subject of this patent is a novelty and introduces novel characteristics among those in its class.
2 The present specification and accompanying drawings describe the main features of a novel juicesqueezing machine specially designed for citrus fruits, and for which the privilege for exclusive manufacture and sale in Spain is requested, in accordance with what is laid down in the Industrial Property Statutory Act in force.
A vigorous campaign, via official organisations, is being carried out for increasing the consumption of oranges in the form of juice in the home market, in order not only to absorb the excess resulting from intensive production of these fruits, but also to consume the lower-quality fruit, which is difficult to export and makes up a valuable portion of total citrus production.
The maih-features of this novel machine, we may say, are based on its economy, its yield per unit time, its small volume which makes it particularly suitable for installation in bars, cafeterias, colleges, hospitals, etc. and its simple and well-designed structure, together with complete visibility of the operations performed, so that the consumer can know and also "see" that the juice served to him is really obtained by squeezing citrus fruits.
To facilitate description of the structural
2 1 1 3 features of the novel machine, it has been thought fit to add a sheet of drawings showing an embodiment of the machine, the drawings respectively being a front view of the part of the machine comprising the extractor drums, and a view in cross-section of the first drawing.
Referring to the aforementioned drawings, we see that the fruits, marked 1, enter the interior of the machine through a tubular supply duct 2 and fall along an inclined plane into a cavity in one of the drums 3, which rotate in opposite directions and touch one another as shown in the first drawing.
The drums 3 are formed with hemispherical cavities 4, which are dimensioned so as to receive one fruit each. As we have already stated, the two drums rotate in opposite directions as indicated by the arrows, and are secured to shafts 5 (see Fig. 2). As a result, the fruit collecting at the top is conveyed downwards, where it is cut into two halves by a knife 6 disposed between the two drums, each half remaining in its respective cavity in the drum.
Two other drums 7 are synchronised with the fruitcollecting drums 3 but disposed at a lower level and are secured to shafts 9 provided with rods 8 having hemispherical heads of suitable size for the squeezing function which they perform. Since the rotation of drums 3 and 7 is synchronised, the half-fruits after being cut and disposed in cavities 4 are immediately 4 engaged by rods 8, which crush them completely, a clearance approximately equal to the peel of the fruit being left between the cavity and the rod.
The machine is actuated by an electric motor 10 and reduction gear which acts directly via a toothed wheel 11 which engages similar wheels 12, the wheels being mounted on shafts 5 and 9 respectively resting on bearings 13, the entire assembly being mounted inside casing 14 in an oil bath.
The juice produced by the squeezing action of jaws 8 as already described, falls on a tray of perforated. material 15 which acts as a filter, allowing juice only to pass and retaining the pips and excessively thick pulp.
The juice falls in a receptacle through a sieve comprising another tray 16 provided with a small tube 17 for filling vessels with juice.
As a health measure, the part of the machine containing drums 3 and 8 is protected by a half-casing 18 which can easily be dismantled for cleaning the squeezing components of the machine, the casing being made of transparent material so that the squeezing operation can be seen.
- Now that the structure and operation of the fruitsqueezing machine have been sufficiently described, it only remains to state that the materials, sizes and shapes of the component parts may be varied, provided there is no alteration to the essential features, which are summarised in the following claims.

Claims (3)
1. A fruit-squeezing machine characterised in that it comprises a casing in which a shaft is vertically positioned and is actuated from the exterior by an electric motor, the machine comprising an endless screw which. acts via a set of toothed wheels which act on two pairs of shafts, the top shaft of which actuates two drums which almost touch and rotate in opposite directions, the drums being formed with peripheral hemispherical cavities which coincide in rotation and each hold one fruit, which enters the machine through a supply tube situated at one side of the machine, the fruits being conveyed to a level below the place where the drums touch and where a knife is disposed and mounted in a holder which acts as a guide and divides the fruits into two halves which remain in their respective cavities, and. are engaged by rods having a hemispherical head mounted in the drums secured to the two shafts disposed at a lower level, the rotation of which is synchronised with the rotation of the upper drums, the rods exerting a compressive action on the half-fruits in order to squeeze the juice thereof, which falls on to a perforated base which acts as a filter, the filtered juice finally flowing on to a tray provided with a juice-discharging tube.

A fruit-squeezing machine according to the previous claim, characterised in that the heads of the rods for compressing the halffruits have a slot along which an extracting blade can move and separates the peel of the squeezed fruits from the rod heads to which they have stuck, the peel being discharged through side apertures in the machine, the devices for cutting and squeezing the fruits being protected by a half-casing of transparent material which can easily be dismantled in order rapidly and efficiently to clean the squeezing means and also enables the aforementioned operations to be watched through it.
