Abstract

221,590. Andrews, G. T. June 26, 1923. Guide and supporting pulleys; flexible pulleys or rollers for supporting haulage &c. ropes in mines &c. A rubber tread is provided of a thickness which is not less than one quarter of the tread diameter. In preferred forms, the pulley comprises a number of rubber discs 4, of a thickness substantially less than the radius, which, together with larger rubber flange discs 5 supported by metal stiffening plates 6, are threaded upon a spindle 2 with journal ends 3, and are axially compressed by metal plate nuts 7 screwed on to threaded portions 8 of the spindle. Tie rods 9 passes through the assemblage and riveted at their ends to the plate nuts 7 resist shearing and unscrewing. The discs 4 may be formed with interengaging annular shoulders and grooves to distribute radial stresses. The interior portion of the discs as indicated at 11, may be of inferior rubber.
