Abstract

Antifriction-wheel bearings; liquids excluding. - The roller spindles of dye becks and the like are supported by one or more wheels or rollers carried in a casing which forms an air seal when submerged in a liquid to protect the wheel bearings either from liquid in the beck or from the surrounding atmosphere. As applied to a beck having two rollers and m which the pull of the material is upwards, the ends of the rollers a, Figs. 3 and 4, have a wheel c<1> co-uperating with a wheel e<2> and with either a wheel e<1> or e<3>. The casing f<1> for the wheels e<1>, e<3> is in two parts and is air-tight so that the liquid in the dye beck cannot reach the bearings for the wheels e<1>, e<3>. When the upward pull of the material is relaxed the rollers are supported by an extension of the spindle a<1> engaging in an enlarged recess in the casing f<1>. The rollers e<1>, e<3> have a deep peripheral groove in which the central roller e<2> engages. In a modification for a beck having a single roller a, the wheel c<1> engages two plain wheels each having annular drip flanges on each side. In a further modification, a wheel c<2>, Fig. 5, has an annular flange which bears on two wheels e<5> in the casing f<1>. The casing f<1> in any of the constructions may be fitted inside the beck and in this case the bottom of the beck is rounded. To protect bearings from a harmful vapour a roll spindle a<*>, Fig. 9, has a wheel a<**> carried by two wheels e<***>, the spindles of which are supported by bearings similar to those in Fig. 5, and the casing- f* contains a suitable liquid.
