Linear-dimension gauges. - In a measure of length or calliper gauge of the type comprising a body portion 5 and a graduated sliding portion 6, an index 14 is arranged on the part 5 so that it reads against the zero of the scale at the end of the slide 6, when the measure is closed up. An abutment 12 may be fixed to the end of the slide, in which case the index 14 will project beyond the end of the part 5 by an amount equal to the thickness of the abutment. The part 5 may be graduated, and the device may be used as in inside or outside calliper gauge. A socket 15 enables extension pieces to be added to the body 5 to make a measure of greater length. In a modification the extension pieces are arranged to telescope into one another and into the body 5. The extension pieces may be hinged to the body portion. The measure may he formed as a walking stick.
