Abstract

Lenses more particularly for use as condenser lenses in optical projection apparatus, are constructed with more than two sections 18, 20, 22, 24, formed by removing portions from the uncut lens along planes 16, 17, passing through the axis of projection and bringing the sections into contact as shown in Fig. 3. Each part of the lens so formed produces a separate and distinct image of the arc 2 at the gate 4, resulting in a greater evenness of illumination of the film 4<a>. Alternatively, two lenses A, B may be formed of two sections each, the lines of the sections being placed at right-angles. In further modifications the sections may be made at angles of 60‹ with one another or three split lenses may be used having the sections at 60‹ with each other. When formed of four sections the axes of the sections may be arranged along a line by only removing a portion of the lens only along one axis and simply cutting the lens along the axis at rightangles to that along which a portion of the lens was removed. The focal points of all the sections lie in a common focal plane.
