Roller mills.-In cane-crushing apparatus with a plurality of sets of rolls whereby the cane is successively acted on, the rolls G, Figs. 1 and 2, of the first set F are of greater diameter than the rolls of the other sets. The rolls A of the second crusher are of greater diameter than the rolls B of the third crusher, and the rolls C', D<1>, E<1> of the second and succeeding juice-expressing mills are of the same size as the rolls B and the rolls C, D, E of the first juice-expressing mill. The rolls have peripheral ribs, preferably V-shaped in cross-section and overlapping, as shown in Fig. 3, the ribs 1, 2 of the second and third crushers A, B being smaller and of less pitch than the ribs 6, 1 of the first and second crushers respectively. The ribs 3 of the rolls C, D, of the first mill are. fine.r than those of the third crusher B, and the ribs 4 of the rolls C<1>, D<1>, E' of the second and succeeding mills are smaller and of less pitch than the ribs 3 of the first mill. The first crusher is driven bv a motor 10, the second and third crushers by a motor 11, the first and second mills hy a motor 12, and the remaining mills by a motor 13.
