Abstract

219,372. Wain, J. R. April 18, 1923 Tension arrangements; thread guides; building-motions.-To avoid excessive tension in the yarn as it is being wound on the nose of a cop in a ring spinning or ring doubling machine when spinning on the bare spindle or on a short tube, the yarn is retarded when winding on the larger diameter of the cop and the yarn so taken up is paid out when winding on the nose. At each side of the machine a glass, porcelain, or like longitudinal rod a is carried on arms b fixed upon a shaft c, upon which are also fixed short arms h coupled to links i carried by a lever j pivoted at k. The lever j carries a bowl n coacting with a can r fixed on the shaft o of the usual lifting-cam p, and is rocked therefrom so as to raise the rods a during the winding on the larger diameter of the cop and to pay out the retarded yarn when winding on the nose. A step t is provided on the cam r to give a quick drop at the nose of the cop, and the cam p is provided with a similar step u, the drops on the two cams coming into action about the same time, a little lead preferably being given to the step t.
