Abstract

218,943. Nebrich, C. Feb. 6, 1924. Rotary strainers. - Apparatus for straining paper pulp &c. comprises a rotary straining drum with an inner non-rotating cylinder, the space within which is subjected to pressure or agitation impulses which act directly upon a comparatively small quantity of the material in the drum. As shown in Figs 1 and 2, the straining drum 2 has hollow trunnions 3, 4 through which the material to be strained is passed into the drum. There is an opening 7 at the bottom of the inner cylinder 6, the trunnions 5 of which are also hollow. Pressure or vacuum pulsations are communicated to the interior of the cylinder 6 through a pipe 10 passing through one of the trunnions 5, the other serving for discharge of the separated knots &c., which are removed from the drum by spray from a pipe 11 and collected in a trough 8 formed at the-top of the cylinder 6. The apparatus may be arranged so that the pulp passes inwa.rds through the drum for straining. Instead of using pulsations, the liquid within the cylinder 6 may be agitated 'by means of a rotary displacer 14, Fig. 3. The cylinder 6 may be closed and provided with a yielding diaphragm 13, Fig. 4.
