Abstract

787,736. Filters. RAUMA-REPOLA OY. May 17, 1954 [May 28, 1953], No. 14409/54. Class 46. A washer for treating slurries of fibrous matter in liquid comprising a strainer wall 1 having on one side a filtrate collecting chamber 3 and on the other a container 2 for the slurry and a doctor 4 relatively rotatable to the wall 1 and adapted for freeing the strainer wall of deposited matter and for introducing slurry upon the wall 1, has filtrate cells 12 adjacent the wall 1 and providing communication between the wall 1 and the chamber 3, a shoe member 8 relatively rotatable to the chamber 3 and provided with a conduit for liquid and adapted to cut off each cell in turn from the chamber 3 and to connect it to a cleaning liquid supply which passes through the cell and through part of the wall 1 corresponding to the cut-off cell, the action of the doctor 4 being synchronised to remove deposited matter from the wall 1 at the portion through which the cleaning liquid is introduced, and means for withdrawing filtrate from the chamber 3 and recycling it as cleaning liquid. As shown a pump 7 withdraws liquid from the chamber 3 and supplies it to the shoe member 8 and each cell 12 has a port 22 with which the shoe member 8, which rotates with the shaft 10 to which the doctor 4 is secured, communicates in turn. Slurry enters at 5 and passes to an annular chamber 13 and then to the interior of the doctor, the surface of the wall 1 within the doctor 4 having been cleared by a blade 15 thereon. In a modification the chamber 3 is formed separately from the cells 12 and communicates therewith by ducts. In a modified construction the doctor, the interior of which is directly fed with slurry, and the shoe member 8 are stationary and the wall 1 and cells rotate. One or more doctors may be used with a corresponding number of shoe members. It is stated that the strainer wall may be cylindrical. Specifications 717,654 and 787,737 are referred to.
