218,482. Entwisle & Kenyon, Ltd., and Redfearn, J. P. Aug. 22, 1923. Washing-machines with enclosed rotary receptacles.-The lid B of the rotary drum A is beaded and wired along its side b<1> so that the beading may take into a recess a<3>, the edge of which is also beaded and wired at a<1> and is of complementary form, arranged along one edge of the aperture in the drum in order to form a loose hinge. The opposite edges a<2>, b<2> of the aperture and lid are also beaded and wired, and the lid is fastened by toggle fastenings each comprising a bracket e<1> fixed to the lid and carrying pivotally a spring link e<2> to the free end of which is pivoted an arm e<4> with a tongue e<3> adapted to take in a groove e formed in a bracket E<2> fixed to the drum. When the arm e<4> is turned into the position shown the edges a<2>, b<2> are forced together and the lid is held firmly against flanges d on the end-plates of the drum.
