Abstract

Rotary converters and transformers.-A rotary converter or like machine, such as a doublecurrent generator, has a symmetrical lap-connected winding on the armature, an odd number of slots per pole-pair, and an odd number of sliprings connected to the winding and supplied with polyphase current, the essential condition being that the number of slots per pole-pair is an exact multiple of the number of phases or slip-rings. A symmetrical 9-phase current may be obtained by an arrangement of the windings on a 3-phase transformer, with or without the use of an additional transformer. Fig. 2 shows a transformer in which each of the three limbs of the starconnected secondary winding has four coils, 9-phase current being obtained from the terminals 1 - - 9. Fig. 4 shows a connection for use when two transformers A are used, C representing the armature of the rotary converter.
