Abstract
218,307. Weiss, M. June 26, 1923, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Pulverulent - f u e l furnaces.-A mixture of powdered fuel and air is fed by a nozzle d into a combustion chamber f having curved walls and enclosing a cylindrical body b so that the combustion products pass through an annular passage of increasing cross section. Slag is deposited at the bottom i of the combustion chamber and may be drawn off through a tap hole c. The combustion products pass from the chamber f through lateral passages a to a dustdepositing chamber s and thence to a boiler or the like. The cylinder b is made of refractory material and is preferably mounted so that it may be rotated during the operation of the combustion apparatus after destruction of parts of the surface by heat. The cylinder may be hollow and heated internally by liquid or gaseous fuel or coke so that it may be used for igniting the fuel. In other cases, the cylinder may be provided with cooling means.
