Abstract

218,701. Grote, L. Feb. 14, 1923. Pulverulent-fuel, blowpipe and spray burners; oil supply.-Burners of the injector type comprising a body portion or barrel, an air and/or steam injector nozzle arranged coaxially with the bore of the barrel at the rear end thereof and fuel supplying means at the rear end of the barrel, are rendered suitable for burning pulverulent liquid, or gaseous fuel separately or in combination. Fig. 2 shows a burner in which pulverized fuel is drawn into an enlarged chamber C in the rear burner part A by the injector action of air which is supplied through a nozzle D after being heated by passage through a jacket G screwed over the fore part F of the burner. The pulverized fuel and air mixture is mixed with additional air or steam supplied through a nozzle E<2> into an annular passage E<1> between the forward end of the part A and the middle part E of the burner. Liquid hydrocarbons or gaseous fuel may be supplied through an annular passage F<1> between the middle part E and the fore part F of the burner. The burner may be started from cold and run on gaseous or liquid fuel until the body portion is sufficiently hot to ensure preheating of the main air or steam supply. The gaseous or liquid fuel may then be cut off and the burner thereafter run on pulverulent fuel. Fig. 4 shows means for supplying pulverulent fuel of different grades or pulverulent and liquid fuel from containers P, Q to the inner chamber C by means of semi-spherical suckers N, 0 mounted at the ends of hollow arms L, M extending from the body part A. The fuel passes through holes N<1>, O<1> into the suckers and is mixed with air supplied through nozzles N<2>, O<2> on its way to the burner. The fuel supply is regulated by hollow valve spindles L<2>, M<2> through which additional air may be injected. In a modified form of burner liquid fuel is supplied to the chamber C through an annular passage surrounding the main air injector nozzle and spherical suckers are used. In a further modification shown in Fig. 7 atmospheric air is admitted to the chamber C through downwardly sloping apertures A<xx>, and an additional liquid fuel passage Z and air passage Z' are provided to the bore B of the part A.
