Abstract

217,974. Fairey Aviation Co., Ltd., and Fairey, C. R. March 21, 1923.. Balancing and regulating altitude.-In an aeroplane having the trailing marginal portions of each half plane divided into two parts, the inner parts or flaps are connected by control cables to elements which can be set at various distances apart by screw mechanisms to enable the flaps to be moved simultaneously in the same direction, and the control cables from the outer parts or ailerons are passed over stationary guide pulleys to a manually-operated drum to enable the ailerons to be moved in opposite directions, the two controls being independent of one another. The Figure shows an arrangement similar to that described in Specification 135,520 in which the upper plane of a biplane has two ailerons B', B<2> and two flaps C<1>, C<2>, the flaps being connected bv wires or struts to flaps E', E<2> on the lower plane. The control cables for the flaps are connected to nuts K<1>, K<2> on a shaft F having a right and left-hand screw adapted to be turned by a hand-wheel J. The cables from the ailerons B<1>, B<2> are passed over stationary pulleys l<3>, l<4>, l<3*>, l<4*>, to a drum L turned by a hand-wheel N.
