Abstract

130,141. Reid, W. T. July 23, 1918. Steering and balancing.-A control-stick D, which swings fore and aft to operate the elevators and has a hand-wheel D<1> for operating the ailerons of an aeroplane, has the hand-wheel connected by cords E, E<1> to grooved quadrants A<1>, A<2> mounted upon a transverse shaft A which operates the ailerons, the peripheries of the quadrants intersecting the pivotal axis of the controlstick D. One of the quadrants is fixed to the shaft A and the other is loose, and a second cord E<3> passing around an idle pulley E<4> connects the two together. A second control may be similarly mounted and connected to the shaft A. The control-stick is connected to a shaft B which operates the elevator preferably by the means described in Specification 130,142.
