Abstract
557,259. Controlling aircraft. K. A. C., Ltd., and LOVE, J. Feb. 3, 1942, No. 1443. [Class 4] A tail-less aeroplane has control surfaces on its wings connected to a single ocntrol member by which the surfaces can be moved in the same or opposite directions to serve as elevators or ailerons respectively. Two control surfaces 1, 2 are connected by the linkage shown to a universally mounted control lever 5, the innermost links 8, 9 each making an angle of 45 degrees with the longitudinal axis of the aircraft. Each of the outer rods may be replaced by parallel cables connected to opposite ends of centrally pivoted levers. According to the Provisional Specification a control column pivoted about a transverse axis and having a hand-wheel at its upper end may be used. In this case the control surfaces are connected each to one arm of a three-armed lever the other two arms of opposite levers being connected together by two cables passing over fixed pulleys and around pulleys on the control column respectively above and below the transverse axis, one of the cables being extended and joined to a chain passing over a sprocket wheel on the hand-wheel shaft. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 6810/12, [Class 4].
