Latches, sliding.-A latch-bolt operated by a vertical rotating cranked spindle has a raised bearing surface at its tail end co-operating with struck-down ears on the cover-plate for guiding the bolt. A depressed rib on the cover-plate bears on the bolt spring to keep it in engagement with the bolt end. In the form shown, the sides k at the tail of the bolt x are bent up to form a bearing surface sliding between the struck down ears o on the cover-plate c. The rib q on the cover-plate c prevents the spring p from accidental disengagement from the end of the bolt. A chair m is riveted at n to the bolt, between the lugs k, and forms the abutment by which the cranked spindle d withdraws the bolt against its spring.
