Abstract
217,560. Plaat, C. [Firm of]. June 22, 1923, [Convention date]. Moulding india - rubber; stream-cutting machines; rolling-machines. - Indiarubber sheets are ornamented by passing them between rollers, surfaces, &c. moving at different speeds. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the formation of ribs &c. by folding a sheet of rubber back on itself over a wire, cord, &c., and passing it between the rollers to close the seam, when the wire &c. may be withdrawn or allowed to remain as a reinforcement. By employing a narrow roller with a cutting edge, these ribs may be severed and form tubes. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a shaft p, Fig. 14 (Cancelled), carrying a series of discs a and a roller b between which and the discs a the rubber is passed. The roller b is adjustably mounted on a cross bar r and is pressed towards the discs a by weights t slidably mounted on levers s acting through links u on the bar r. An adjustable brake assures that the peripheral speed of the roller b is less than that of the discs a. In a modification particularly adapted for making ribs, nr of severing these ribs to form tubes, the sheet c, Fig. 9 (Cancelled), folded round a core k is placed in a recess m of a disc b. A disc a with a projection n is brought into proximity, and the discs are rotated at different speeds. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
