Abstract

Traversing - cutter machines.- In a machine for cutting tyre threads or like bands into lengths with a skived edge for splicing, a disc knife 19 with a geared electro-motor 20 is mounted on an inclined carriage 17 reciprocated transversely of the web from a crank 24. The web 14 and the knife 19 are traversed alternately. The web 14 is fed by conveyers 12, 13 driven from a clutch 29 on a power shaft 27. An adjustable wheel 30 trails upon the material and, when a predetermined length of web has passed, a cam 33 actuates a rod 35 to operate the clutch 29 to stop the conveyers and to operate a clutch 25 for moving the knife 19. A pivoted clamp 47 is raised by a projection 45 on the carriage when the material is fed. In a modification a series of disc cutters with overlapping cutting strokes is used for severing wide material.
