Abstract

164,787. Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., Macbeth, C., and Fellowes, F. Jan. 12, 1920. Tyre covers, special apparatus for making.-In a bead-trimming device for tyre-making machines, the cutters A are carried by arms B pivoted at B<1> to a frame E which is adjustable with respect to the core H about a vertical spindle F. The cutters are advanced to the core by means of a spreader B<4> fitted with rollers B<5> engaging inclined extensions B<3> of the arms B. The member B<4> is counterweighted at C<1> and actuated by a hand-lever B<6>, a spring B<2> normally spreading the cutters clear of the core. The mechanism is such that the resistance to the movement of the hand-lever progressively increases as the cutters approach the core. In a modification, the spreader B<4> is actuated by a foot-treadle, means being provided for preventing the approach of the cutters until in operative relation with the core.
