Abstract

Lenses and lens holders. - An appliance for transmitting light comprises a number of members of light-conducting material, such as quartz, placed end to end in a relatively movable manner so that the light may be transmitted through a curved path if desired. As shown in Fig. 2, the appliance comprises quartz members 6 - - 10 fitted at their ends with ball and socket joints and enclosed in a flexible sheath 11 so that the appliance can be bent, as shown in Fig. 5. The receiving end member 10 may have a flat exposed face, and the emitting end member 6 may be pointed. The appliance may be used for illuminating cavities in the body, and when in use a quartz vessel 18, Fig. 1, containing a heat-absorbing medium such as water, may be internosed between the appliance and the vapour arclamp 12.
