Abstract
216,729. Thompson, A. H. July 23, 1923. Vaporizers, external. -In a vaporizer, heated electrically at starting of the kind comprising a casing 10 situated in the exhaust pipe and enclosing a cylinder 18 through which the mixture passes, the interior surface of the cylinder and the exterior surface of cross tubes 23, 24 provided within the cvlinder are covered with insulating material. Alternatively, the cylinder and cross tubes are made of porcelain. The end of the cylinder 18 is provided with an insulated flange 25, and a resistance wire 27 of nickel chrome alloy is wound around the tubes 23, 24 and is laced through holes 26 in the flange 25 to form a grid' across the induction aperture 17. The heating circuit 27 is in parallel with the starting motor, and is controlled by the starting switch. The casing 10 is provided with four connections. which may be used alternatively, for the inlet and outlet of the exhaust; one of the connections may be provided with a control valve, in which case the casing 10 is arranged in a by-pass to the main exhaust pipe.
