Abstract
217,331. Electrical Improvements, Ltd., and Grant, L. C. March 16, 1923. Protective arrangements.-A lightning or surge arrestor comprises a winding connected in the line and constituting the primary winding of a transformer the secondary winding of which dissipates the energy in the form of heat. The primary winding A, Fig. 1, is connected in the line by means of terminals c<1> passing through insulators C. The winding A, is surrounded by a tube B of cast iron, or other material having highspecific heat, thermal conductivity, and melting point and a relatively high resistance, forming the secondary winding. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the primary winding D is surrounded by a conducting cylinder E from which it is insulated by a liner F of fuzed-silica, mica or porcelain. The transformer is mounted on insulators G<1> within a casing G filled with oil. The primary winding K, Fig. 3, is wound on an insulating core L mounted in supports L<1> carried by the two parts M, M<1> of the secondary which are united by flanges M<2>, M<3>. The space between the winding K and the secondary M, M' is filled with insulating material.
