Abstract

Ores and concentrates containing zinc, copper, cadmium &c after calcination, if necessary, to convert sulphides into sulphates and oxides, are treated with raw gas liquor, the ammoniacal solution is separated from the sludge or tailings and is distilled to obtain a precipitate containing the zinc &c. in more concentrated form and a distillate which is used again. The precipitate is dried, calcined, or sublimed with further recovery of ammoniacal vapours. The zinc &c. in the precipitate and the precious metals, lead, &c. in the sludge or tailings are then extracted by known methods.
