Abstract

216,147. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Baker, W. R. G.). May 19, 1923, [Convention date]. Combined transmitting and receiving arrangements; wired wireless systems. - Modulated highfrequency oscillations are transmitted over power lines, the receiving and transmitting apparatus being alternately coupled to the power lines, and means are provided to prevent the accumulation of an electric charge on the coupling line when neither receiving nor transmitting apparatus is connected to the line. The Figure shows power lines 1 - - 3 and a coupling conductor 4 extending a thousand feet or more parallel and close thereto. A switch 5 serves to connect either the receiving apparatus 6 or the transmitting apparatus 7, while a coil 9, offering a high impedance to signalling currents and a low impedance to induced currents from the power conductors, is connected between the conductor 4 and earth. The coil 9 may be shunted by a spark-gap 10 to discharge high potentials.
