215,902. Martin, H. E., Harris, R. A., Booth, J. H., and Baker, Sons, & Perkins, Ltd., J. March 19, 1923. Packeting by wrapping-up.- Relates to machines, for wrapping caramels, cakes, &c., and of the type wherein the opposed ends of wrappers are twisted by combined rotary and reciprocating movements imparted to two pairs of grippers operating simultaneously upon the ends. According to the invention, the reciprocatory grippers have a continuous rotary movement imparted to them. The preliminary wrapping is effected, in known manner, in a recess in an oscillating arm, from which the partially wrapped article is transferred to the jaws v of a holder x. The grippers h, on continuously rotating spindles f, are closed upon the projecting ends of the wrapper by the operation of rack rods i actuated by springs l and controlled by levers j. During the twisting, the spindles f are advanced towards the article by levers o. The spindles are continuously rotated by gearing m, n.
