Abstract

215,816. Siegrist, J. Feb. 8, 1923. Reservoir pens.-In a self-filling fountain pen provided with a retractable nib, the cap is provided with a semicircular hole at the front end and is connected with the spirally-slotted propelling-sleeve for the nib in such a way that, after the retraction of the nib is complete, further rotation of the - cap closes the opening at the front end of the barrel. The nibcarrier 2, Fig. 4, is provided with a pin 8 which extends through the spiral slot 9 in the relatively rotatable sleeve 1 and'through a longitudinal slot in a sleeve 19, Fig. 2, into a longitudinal slot in the wall of the covering-cap 22. The longitudinal slot in the cap terminates in a slot 25, Fig. 8, extending half way round the interior wall. The cap 22 and the sleeve 19 are each provided with a semicircular opening at the front end through which the nib is projected'. The sleeve 1 ends in a bearing 12 rotatably mounted in a ring 14 to which the cap 22 is screwed, the ring being held in position by a nut 17 carrying the sleeve 1. Rotation of the ring 14 when the nib is in the projected position causes the rotation of the sleeve 19 and the nib-carrier 2 through the engagement of the pin 8 in the slots in the sleeve and' cap, to retract the nib. At the end of the inward movement of the nib, the cap is - allowed free rotation through the engagement of the pin 8 in the slot 25, so that the semicircular holes in the front ends of the cap and sleeve 19 are brought out of alignment. The nib-carrier 2 is hollow and is connected by a tube 5 to a reservoir 6, which may be in the form of a collapsable sac protected by a cap 29, and a tube 26 provided with an opening 27 to enable the sac to be compressed. The Provisional Specification also describes a pen having the nib-carrier extended rearwards and provided with a pin engaging a spirally-slotted tube, which is provided with a rotatable. A sleeve is mounted in the front end of the barrel, and is formed with a longitudinal slot which is engaged by a second pin on the nib-carrier, the pin also extending into a longitudinal slot terminating in a semicircular transverse slot in the barrel. The barrrel and sleeve are formed with semicircular holes in the front end, and at the end of the inward movement of the nib-carrier, further rotation of the head-piece, causes the rotation of the nib-carrier and of the sleeve to close the opening in the end of the barrel. In order to prevent leakage, a screw-threaded connection may be provided to enable the sleeve and barrel to be clamped together in the closed position, or the nib-carrier may be provided with a hole which registers with a hole in a sleeve only when the nib is projected. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 8198/03.
