Abstract
243,110. Wade, L. R. Sept. 11, 1924. Pen point-protectors.-A pen cap comprises a sheath or sleeve e of vulcanite having a tapered portion e<1> provided with a number of longitudinal slits f in order to permit of circumferential expansion of, and to impart flexibility to, this portion of the sheath, means being also provided to enable the cap to be held in projected or retracted position on the pen. The retaining- means may be in the form of two annular grooves e2, e<4> in the sheath adapted to engage with a flange b' on the point-section b. In alternative arrangements, the sheath may be formed with internal ribs adapted to engage in a groove on the point-section or barrel, or spaced ribs on the barrel may be adapted to engage in a groove in the sheath. An inturned lip e<3> on the sheath, or a pin on the barrel or sheath sliding in a groove in the other part serves to limit the longitudinal movement of the cap. A band of rubber or like material may be inserted in an external groove on the sheath to prevent leakage of the arms formed by the slits f. Reservoir pens.-According to one Provisional Specification, the end of the barrel in a self-filling pen of the collapsable sac type is tapered and slit to form the nib cover.
