Abstract

214,700. Bywater, D. Jan. 19, 1923. Fixed-chamber apparatus; valve systems for; controlling passage of air and gases for.-A construction of measuring chamber is described for use with apparatus of the type in which water from an elevated cistern is first passed into the measuring chamber and is subsequently admitted to an underground petrol tank to displace a similar volume of petrol which is delivered. The chamber comprises a glass cylinder 1 and top and bottom plates 3, 2. The top plate carries a dome 5 closed to the chamber by a glass plate 11 in which is an electric globe 6. Below the chamber 1 is a valve chamber 21. The plate 2 is centrally screwed to receive two bushes 13, 14 which house two running nipples 15, 16, the top nipple having a seating for a ball valve 18 working in a hood 19. A. dirt collector 20 is also fitted to the chamber 1. A three-way two-part cock 22 is fitted in the valve box 21 in connection with inlet and outlet pipes 23, 24. The cock is joined to the nipple 16 by a union 25. When the chamber 1 is filled with water, air is compressed into a separate chamber until a float valve 10 is closed. The air serves to accelerate flow of liquid in discharging.
