Abstract
496,950. Float - actuated valves. FERGUSON, J. L., and FERGUSON, J June 8, 1937, No. 15812. [Class 135] A float-actuated supply valve for cisterns, tanks, and the like of the kind having a series of metallic gauze discs 20 held in a socket 19 on the inlet side of the valve by a centrally ported screw-threaded member 14 is provided with a tubular valve seat member 5, 6 with an annular flange 7 resting on the bottom 4 of the tank or the like, the part of the seat member 5 above the flange guiding the valve member 1 and presenting the valve seat proper, and the other part of the seat member 6 forming the socket 19 for the discs 20. A member 9 supporting a pivoted float arm 11 and forming a stop for a collar 10 on the valve is adjustably threaded on the part 5 above outlet ports 21. The bottom wall 4 is clamped between the flange 7 and a nut 8, suitable washers being interposed to prevent leakage. The member 14 is in the form of an adj ustable flanged coupling and its lower end is connected to an inlet branch 17 which in turn is connected by a nipple coupling 23, 24 to a supply pipe 25. A series of gauze discs 22 are pressed by the supply pressure against a flange 26 on the nipple which has also a thimble-shaped filter 27. The two series of discs 20, 22 as well as the filter 27 are of non- corrosive wire gauze.
