Abstract

A vehicle roof locker designed to carry luggage or similar. Can be detached from roof clamps 26 and folded away for storage. Roof clamps can be used for other purposes. The permanently rigid model detaches from the roof clamps. However, this model does not fold away and therefore takes considerably more storage space. Access to both versions when in position on the vehicle is made by an access panel on the near side. An aerodynamically designed rigid or foldable roof locker can be detached from the roof clamps for storage. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Roof locker A roof locker cabinet to be carried on the top of a vehicle, held in place by four suction pads at each corner of the roof and also firmly held to the vehicle by gutter clips as shown in Figure 2.
This cabinet is designed to take luggage and is aerodynamically designed so as not to interfere with the air flow over the vehicle as shown in Figure 2.
The cabinet can be made to form a solid shape made up from a water tight material, fibre glass or rigid plastic. A door is available, having access from the near side when in place on a vehicle roof, also shown on Figure 2.
There is a more versatile model to allow easier storage as it folds away more compactly, this will have the same shape as Figure 2 but the structure would be made up from a more plyable material; a softer plastic or rubberised material.
The base, sides and rear of the roof locker being made of plywood as shown in Figure 3 and covered with a water-tight material. This model would fold flat.
Figure 3 shows how it is assembled. It is made up from a base which is hinged down its length and hinged to this at each side are the side panels, one of which is an access panel as shown in Figure 3. The rear panel is held in position by four tongues slotted into four receiving slots located in the base and side panels. There is a strengthening rod located at the front of the locker as shown in Figure 3. These are all held firmly together to form the roof locker by the tongue of the waterproof membrane which forms the top of the roof locker and stretches down over the sides and the rear and is attached to the base.
The strengthening rod and rear panel and moved and the sides folded inwards and the base folds to encase the side panels and the rear panel and strengthening rod then go inside as the locker resembles a suitcase form when folded together.
1. The roof locker cabinet aerodynamically designed to be attached to the roof of any vehicle.
2. The roof locker as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein made to form a rigid shape.
3. The roof locker as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3 wherein a versatile model to fold compactly within itself for storage.
4. The roof locker as claimed in claim 3 or claim 4 wherein the fold away model is hinged together.
5. The roof locker as claimed in claim 4 or claim 5 wherein the fold away model is covered in a water tight membrane.
6. The roof locker substantially described herein with reference to Figures 1 - 5 of the accompanying drawing.
