Abstract

1503336 Roof luggage containers J E LANE and J B FOSTER 19 Sept 1975 38556/75 Heading B7J A vehicle roof top luggage container is formed by spaced substantially parallel rib rails 12, 16, 18 permanently secured to the roof 14 by screws 36 and a cover 20 having a peripheral rim 30 carrying a resilient gasket 28 the cover having on its side, adjacent the drivers side of the vehicle, hinge pins 32 which engage in hinges 24 formed on the outer lip 22 of the rail 16, whilst on its opposite side the cover has lock devices 34 which engage with a lip 22 on the rail 18. When the cover is secured, the gasket 28 abuts the rails 16, 18 whilst its edges transverse of the rails abuts the roof 14. The rails may be associated with corner stanchions and upper rails to retain luggage which stanchion and upper rails are covered by the cover 20, as described with reference to Fig. 6 (not shown).
