Abstract

214,272. Aktiebolaget Ljungstr÷ms Angturbin. April 14, 1923, [Convention date]. Regenerators. - Two or more rotary regenerators of the kind in which the same channels, are alternately traversed by air and comlrurtion gases and having separate air inlets are arranged in the limited space available at the side of water-tube boilers of stearruships. Fig. 1 shows a Yarrow boiler with regenerators 9 arranged on each side. Air passes through the regenerators and channels 12 in the side walls of the furnace to the ash-pit and the combustion products pass through the regenerators to the stack by the course indicated by the, arrow 10. The regenerators may be adapted to rotate on horizontal axes and in a vertical plane parallel to the longitudinal direction of the boiler, the regenerators in this case being provided with central channels allowing the gases when desired to pass directly to the stack. Fans may be provided for forcing the air and gases through the regenerators. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the regenerators 9 are located above the boiler. The regeneratons in this case may also be mounted on horizontal axes and connected in pairs to a single-fan housing. Fig. 10 shows a further modification in which the regenerators. are located on each side of the upper drum of the boiler and the fan and rotor shafts are parallel. The fans may, however, be mounted on a common shaft perpendicular to the shafts of the rotors, as shown in Figs. 12 and 13. A valve 30 may permit the combustion gases to pass directly to the stack. Other modifications of the relative positions of the fan and rotor shafts are described and shown.
