Abstract

214,089. Edgeworth, K. E. April 26, 1923. Thermionic generators.-Wireless transmitters in which the source of power is situated at a dis. tance from the oscillation generator are provided with switching-means adjacent to the power source but adapted to be controlled from the oscillator, said switching means making and breaking the connection between the power source and the high-tension leads. Thus, when the oscillator is not working there are no live leads in its neighbourhood. As shown in the Figure, the valve transmitter 13 is situated at a distance from the high-tension source 1, 2 and the low-tension source 3, 4. The valve is set in action by closing a switch 12 in the filament circuit, which is connected through a cable 10 and relay 9 to the low-tension supply 3, 4. Thus when the switch 12 is closed the relay 9 is energized, closing the switch 5 and connecting the high-tension mains 1, 2 to the supply cable 8. When the switch 12 is opened, relay 9 is de-energized and releases its armature 5, thus disconnecting the cable 8 from the high-tension supply. The relay 9 may be arranged on the power switchboard. In addition to protecting the operator from accidental contact with the H.T. supply, the arrangement prevents interference with the action of a receiver in the intervals of non- transmission.
