Abstract

213,718. Cruze, W. A. Jan. 27, 1923. Fastenings for sliding doors and windows.- Each sash 1, 2, is provided at diagonally opposite corners with rollers 4 carried in brackets 5 and at the other diagonally opposite corners with springs 6 doubled over on themselves and having a flat end secured to the sash and a coiled end pressing against the groove 7 in the frame 3. With heavy sashes, when springs of a powerful nature are employed, a roller 10, Fig. 6, may be attached to the spring 6 by bending the end of a spring around the reduced central portion 11 of the roller. The sashes may be secured in the closed position by a pin 12 inserted at either side of the window frame in one of a number of holes 13 in a plate 14, the pin 12 passing through the coinciding loops of the spring 6, if inserted at the lefthand side, or through one of a number of slots in the bracket 5 on the lower sash and just below the lower end of the bracket 5 on the upper sash, if inserted at the right-hand side. Either the upper or the lower sash can be secured in an open position by passing the pin 12 through a hole 13 which coincides with one of the slots in a bracket 5 or with the loop of a spring 6. When not in use the pin 12 may be inserted in a hole 16, Fig. 10. The sashes may be removed from the frame 3 by sliding them so as to bring the springs and rollers opposite slots 17 in the frame, the slots being normally filled by blocks of wood 18 secured to the parting and inside beads 19, 19 of the frame as shown in Figs. 14 and 3 respectively. Coil springs may be arranged in the frame 3 to assist in lifting the sashes. According to the Provisional Specification, the device may be applied to sliding doors or shutters.
