2 Claims. 1 The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in doors and more particularly to a centrally pivoted door to balance the door on its pivot.
An important object of the invention is to provide a one piece door which is plvoted at its cenadapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being ad to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view Figure 2 is an enlarged horizontal sectional view taken on a line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional View taken on a line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a top plan view; and
Figure 5 is an enlarged perspective view of the door latch.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a one piece door of glass or other suitable material having a frame 6 at its edges. The bottom rail 1 of the frame is preferably hollow metal construction to provide a scuif plate and the vertical sides of the frame are constructed to provide hollow metal stiles 8 having a slightly beveled edge 9 to ride substantially closely in the sides of a dOOr frame I 0. Door frame It is provided at its sides and top with a right jamb I I in front of the door and a left jamb I2 behind the door and against which the door strikes.
Bottom rail '1 is formed at its center with a recess it to receive an upstanding pivot pin 14 supported in a sill i5 and rising therefrom and be retracted to remove the door, when desired.
An inner guard rail 28 is placed behind the door and an outer guard rail 2! is placed in front of the door to extend in a direction longitudinally of the doorway and the inner and outer guard rails are placed in a longitudinally offset position with respect to each other, as shown in Figure 4,
exit at the right side of the door when leaving the building.
A guard rope 22 connects one edge of the door to the inner end of the inner guard rail 20 and a guard rope 23 connects the other edge of the of to prevent interference with each other.
Each edge of the door is provided with a push plate 24 at the entrance or exit sides thereof.
One of theguard rails, for instance inner rail 28, is provided with a keeper 0r latch plate 25 engageable by a key controlled latch 26 at one edge of the door to lock the door in open position.
When the door is in closed position, as shown by full lines in Figure 4, the side edges of the to limit opening movement of the door to one direction, as indicated by the arrows. The door may then be swung into an open position, as shown by the dotted lines, by a person approaching the right side of the door when either entering or leaving the doorway.
is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, What is claimed as new is:
1. A door structure comprising the combination of a door frame in a doorway and having a door jamb at least at one side of the frame, means at the central upper and lower edges of the door swingably supporting the same in the frame for opening movement into a position at the center of the frame to provide an entrance at one side of the door and an exit at the opposite side thereof, and guards for the entrance and exit obstructing movements or persons in a reverse direction therethrough, said guards including fixed guard rails projecting inwardly and outwardly of the doorway substantially at its center, and flexible barricades between the inner and outer ends of the guards and the respective side edges of the door.
2. A door structure comprising the combination of a door frame having a door jamb at least at one side of the frame, means at the central upper and lower edges of the door swingably supporting the same in the frame for opening movement into a position at the center or the frame to provide an entrance at one side of the door and an exit at the opposite side thereof, inner and outer guard rails at the central inner and outer sides of the door and at right angles to the closed position of the door, a flexible guard member connecting the inner end of the inner guard rail to the side edge of the door at its entrance side, and a flexible guard member connecting the outer end of the outer guard rail to the side edge of the door at its exit side to prevent reverse movement of persons through the entrance and exit sides.
