Abstract

Vices.-A vice of the kind in which the jaws are mounted so as to be capable of adjustment about both horizontal and vertical axes is constructed with a trough-shaped foundation plate b adjustable on a vertical pivot d received in a bearing c in a base plate a. The plate b is adjustable; by a worm h and a hand-operated worm wheel, and a scale and pointer are provided to assist the setting, screws e serving to hold the plate b in adjusted position. The plate b is formed at each end with arms constituting bearings i for a jaw support formed of a cylindrical segment o with uprights p secured in place by journals k concentric with the segment o. The jaw-support is adjustable about the axis of the segment o by means of worm gearing, and is provided with guides q for the carriage m of the jaws n which are adjustable by a double screw s operable by a key inserted through an aperture k<1> concentric with the journals k. Plates r prevent rotation of the jaws n and cause them to be traversed in the carriage m when the screw is operated.
