Abstract

213,152. White, A. E., (Crane Packing Co.). May 22, 1923. Joint - making packing.-Packing, of the type comprising a body 1 formed by winding metal foil helicallv backwards and forwards on a wire or string core 2, is provided with a covering of braided wire. Graphite may be applied to the foil during winding. The foil is of non- abrasive metal, such as lead, copper, aluminium or Babbitt metal and the body may consist of more than one of the metals. The packing has one or two coverings 3, 4, preferably of braided copper or lead wire.
