Abstract

213,031. Latham, H. S. Jan. 5, 1923. Bristles, fixing; brush-making tools. - In paint, &c., brushes of the type in which an expansible clamping piece is placed within the bristles and expanded to clamp the bristles between it and the ferrule, the clamping piece is of hollow conical form. As shown, the clamping piece c is supported on an abutment or on the stock of the brush, and pressure is applied by a tool comprising an inner element e adapted to centralize the clamping piece and an outer element d adapted to expand it. A spike or rail i or a screw may be formed on, or attached to, the piece to assist in securing the stock to the ferrule a. To facilitate insertion of the piece in position a hollow tapered stem k, Fig. 4, on which the piece is placed, is passed through the bristles and through a hole in the abutment j, the clamping piece being arrested by the abutment. The clamping piece may be in the form of an inverted cup or may be formed integrally with a handle or a socket therefor.
