SHAVING BRUSH Filed sept. 24, 1928 13 INVENTOR BY WIK/@i352 ATTORNEY Patente-d Nov. 5, 1929 UNITED STATES WILLIAM M. NEISSL, OF CHARLESTON, ARKANSAS SHAVING BRUSH Application led September' 24, 1928. Serial No. 308,026.
My invention relates to shaving brushes and more particularly to brushes wherein the handle and brush element are separable.
An object of the invention is to provide a brush embodying a flexible bristle carrying strip adapted to be helically wound and detachably held within a handle so that after use the strip and bristles may be thoroughly sterilized. Y
The invention further provides a bifurcated socket for the reception of a brush element and a sleeve having threaded engagement With the socket for forcing the bifurcated parts into clamping engagement with the brush element.
Vith the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangement of parts, and operations to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings7 wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of a shaving brush constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section `View of the same;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view illustrating the cooperating brush element holding socket and 3o sleeve or terrule;
Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 5 is a detail elevation of the brush element embodyed in the invention.
Referring to the invention in detail a longitudinal sheet of flexible material 5 having bristles 6 incorporated therein and projecting from one face thereof is provided. While the strip 5 is illustrated as being` formed of rubber it is to be understood that any desirable material may be employed that will be found practical for the purpose.
A brush handle 10 Jformed with an exteriorly threaded tapered socket 11 is formed on one end of the handle. At diametrically opposite points the socket is formed with V-shaped bifurcations 12 which extend from the outer end of the socket to the juncture of the socket with the handle.
In practice the flexible sheet and bristles are rolled into cylindrical formation and received within the socket as disclosed in Fig. 2.
In order to clamp the flexible sheet and bristles within the socket for use an internally threaded tapered ferrule l5 is threaded on the socket to cause the bifurcated parts of the latter to bind or clampingly engage the rolled sheet and bristles.
Vhen it is desired to remove the brush element for the purpose of sterilizing the entire surface oi the latter including the flexible sheet 5 it is only necessary to thread the errule 15 a sufficient distance towards the handle 10 to permit suiicient separation of the bifurcatcd parts of the handle as to permit the brush element to be removed.
What is claimed is:
A brush head consisting of an elongated strip of yieldable rubber, bristles extending the entire length of the strip and having their inner ends incorporated in one edge thereof, the brush head being helically wound and positioned in a socket.
