SCRUBBING BRUSH CLAMP HANDLE."
APPLICATION FILED FEB-28,1921- 1,376,862, I Patent-ed May 3, 192 1 I IIIIIII @WMM v Frank ELTS-ch I I fi /gfl ww/ I UNHTEE TATE earner series."
FRANK DEUTSCH, OF G'UDAHY, WISCONSIN.
SCRUBBING-BRUSH CLAMP-HANDLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK DEUTsoH, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Cud'ahy, in the county of Milwaukeeand State of lVisconsin, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Scrubbing-Brush Clamp-Handles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention has for its object to provide a simple, economical and effective scrubbing brush holder, the same being constructed and arranged'to fit brushes having backs of various widths and thicknesses.
The particular object of my invention is to provide a light, durable and inexpensive brush holder embodying primarily two parts whereby the brush is gripped centrally, or in line of the push or pull strain put upon it.
Another object of the invention is to provide the adjustable clip member in such manner that it will cooperate with the metallic parts of the ferrule member, so asto be firmly held against twisting or other strains.
With the above and other minor objects in view, the invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts as are hereinafter set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a plan View of a brush holder embodying the features of my invention, and
Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same, the section being indicated by line 22 of Fi 1.
l eferring by characters to the drawings, 1 represents a hollow ferrule adapted to receive a scrubbing brush handle 2. The lower end of the tubular ferrule is split longitudinally and is folded in opposite directions to form a heel pad 3 and a back pad 4, the same being adapted to engage the rear edge and face respectively of a brush back A. The front wall of the ferrule is formed with a rectangularaperture Specification of Letters Patent.

being in axial alinement with the reotangu lar aperture 5.
These alined apertures are arranged to receive the stem 7 of an adjustable clip havlng a flattened head 8 that engages the upper face of the brush back, and terminates with a downturn gripping claw 8, which claw, together with the heel pad 3, is formed with gripping teeth 9 that are adapted to be embedded into the edges of the brush back to thereby more securely hold the same in place.
As shown, the stem portion of the clip. which springs from the head is slightly offset and is squared in cross-section and the rear end of the stem rounded and threaded for snug fit within the tubular nipple '6.
tion to the heel pad 3 by a thumb nut 10,
which is in threaded union with the end of the stem and is adapted to abut against the endface of the nipple.
Obviously, it will be seen that when a brush back is adjusted between the ferrule heel 3 and the claw 8 of the clip, it will firmly lock said brush with the ferrule and this locking engagement will be effected, irrespective of the thickness of the brush back, there being sufiicient distance between the teeth of the heel pad 3 and its base and the claw with respect to the underface of the clip, to provide an ample biting sur face under all conditions.
While I have shown and described my invention in minute details, it is understood that I may vary the structural features within the scope of the claim.
I claim:
A brush holder comprising a hollow handle receiving ferrule having its bottom end split and flared to form a heel pad and a back pad for engagement with the rear edge and top face of a brush, the ferrule being provided with a rectangular opening in its front wall extending above the back pad, and an alined tubular nipple extending from its rear wall, a flattened headed clip having a downturned gripping claw for engagement with the front edge of a brush, an offset shank extending from the clip head, the same being squared in cross-seca brush back between the ferrule heel pad tion for slidahle contact with the ferrule and the clip claw, the line of grip being in 10 back pad and for engagement With the a plane common to the axis of the ferrule. squared ferrule opening, the shank terrni- In testimony that I claim the foregoing nating with a threaded end extending I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, through the tubular nipple of the ferrule, in the county of Milwaukee and State of and an adjusting nut engaging the threadlVisconsin.
ed end of the clip stem for firmly securing FRANK DEUTSCH.
