Abstract

212,874. Etablissements Sim, Morges Soc. Anon. March 15, 1923, [Convention date]. Valves for internal-combustion engines &c. are made from a bar having a section corresponding to the smallest section of the part to be produced, a portion 3 of the bar being electrically heated and then upset to form a head 2 which is subsequently shaped to the desired form 5 without reheating. The electrode 7, which is adjustable by a screw 15, is provided with a centering socket, while the second electrode 9 serves as a guide for the bar, the other end of which is clamped in a carriage 18. The electrodes are connected to the secondary terminals of a transformer and the carriage 18 is fed forward to the required extent by means of a screw 19 rotated by a stepped driving pulley 20. In a modification the carriage 18 may be fixed and the electrodes movable.
