Abstract

467,988. Forging-machines. FINZEL, H. Dec. 27, 1935, No. 35824. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1934. [Class 83 (iv)] Dies.-In apparatus for forging in which both the work and tool holders are used as electric conductors for heating the work pieces which are successively acted on by the tools, the holders are moved toward one another after each rotary movement so as first to close the circuit through the work piece thereby heating same, and then successively deforming the work by the tools. As shown, a press ram 7 carries a series of tools 17 of which one is spring pressed at 20 and insulated at 18 leaving a conducting space 19, by which current can pass from conducting elements 15, 14 in the position shown in the drawing. As the tool 17 engages a work piece 21 for upsetting, current passes and heats it until the tool has been forced back in a socket part of the ram, whereupon the circuit is broken and the forging takes place. The other tools act, in the usual manner, i.e. they are not shiftable in guides.
