Butt joints.-In a butt joint for pipes of equal diameter and having external or internal shrunk or riveted joining members B, the abutting ends D of the pipes A, A to be joined are conically turned to provide surfaces inclined to the pipe axis, and the pipe end which is thus formed with an acute angle E is furnished with a recess F, whereby a butt joint, capable of being caulked, is made. The butt ends D of the pipes may bear directly upon one another, or upon projections G, Fig. 4, pivoted on the joining member. Internal joining members may be used.
