Abstract
An accessory for dyeing or bleaching locks of hair by the so- called mesh method, constituted by two separate rectangular parts 1, 2 which can be hinged (5, 9) one to the other at the moment of use along one of the short sides, and can be snap- closed one onto the other. The top part of the accessory comprises an aperture 12 through which it is possible to observe the treatment. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Accessory for dyeing or bleaching locks or hair
The so-called mesh decoloration method, i.e.
the decoloration of only some locks of the hair, has been widely applied for some years in the hairdressirig field, particularly by iadies' hairdressers, in order to obtain a particularly elegant streaky effect. Similarly, dyes are applied to individual-locks, even different dyes to different locks.
According to-the most commonly followed method, this lock treatment is carried out by isolating the lock of hair within a rectangle of heavy metal-foil, then applying the dye or other paste to it, and tightly wrapping it within the foil holder so that the paste is able to impregrrate it and act uniformly over the entire hair length. The treatment time cannot be exactly predicted because the applied pastes are prepared on the spot from variable ingredients, and the rate of colour change depends largely on the particular hair treated and the environmental temperature and humidity conditions and it is therefore necessary to reopen the foil holders at intervals in order to follow the progress of the treatment and determine a satisfactory moment for stopping the treatment. It is apparent that as the foil has to enclose the hair as close as possible to its roots, this frequent opening and closing of the foil holder results in a frequent pulling action on the hair root, which becomes considerably weakened thereby.
At the end of the operation, the containers are disposed of.
This invention describes a new accessory for the treatment of individual hair locks, which has essentially the following advantages over the foil holders used in the known art: it allows the lock to be left "open" without maltreating the hair and without applying tension to the roots; - when the lock is enclosed, its progressive colour change can be followed from the outside without further touching it until the end of the
process, i.e. besides being advantageous for the
hair, it makes the treatment much simpler; - the accessory can be re-used practically
indefinitely.
The new accessory according to the present invention is constituted essentially by a very flat
rectangular container in which the hair to be treated is collected, and a cover which is hinged onto one of the short sides of the container
(namely on the side adjacent to the hair roots) and
is closed against it under pressure. In the cover there is provided a slot through which the
progress of the treatment can be followed without
extracting the lock of hair.
When treatment is finished, the cover is opened
and the two parts of the accessory are washed for
re-use.
The accessory according to the present
invention will be further described with reference
to the accompanying drawings, which show one
embodiment. In the drawings: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the bottom part of the accessory,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of an end portion of the bottom part of the accessory,
Figure 3 is a. plan view of the bottom part of the accessory,
Figure 4 is a longitudinal section of the bottom part, on a larger scale,
Figure 5 is a longitudinal section of the top part or cover of the accessory,
Figure 6 is a plan view of the cover, and Figure7 is a longitudinal section of the cover, on a lager scale.
The accessory is a shallow flat rectangular hollow body consisting of a shallow bottom or container part 1, and a rectangular cover 2 which in use is hinged to the container at one end, that is to say, along one of the short sides of the rectangle.
The accessory can be made of any suitable material for example metal or plastics. Its dimensions are such that it will comfortably accommodate a lock of hair spread out. Typically, the accessory may be 100 mm long, 50 mm wide and 9 or 10 mm deep.
The bottom part has rims 3 along its long sides, and a rim 4 along one of its short sides. The other short side is open, and each long rim 3 has, at its end adjacent to the open short side, a part-circular recess 5, extending over rather more than a semicircle, to act as a hinge socket. The long side rims 3 have, near the closed end of the container, external knurled surfaces 6, to make it easier for the user to hold, and to open and close, the accessory.
The top part or cover has a shallow rim 7 along both long sides and one short side, and a deeper rim 8 along the other short side, merging into a cylindrical hinge member 9 shaped so that it can be pressed into the hinge sockets 5 of the container and subsequently removed from these.
When the container and cover are fitted together by means of the hinge 9 and sockets 5, the cover can be closed onto the container and can be held closed by a snap-action fastening comprising an internal rib on the short rim of the cover remote from the hinge, which rib engages a recess 11 formed by undercutting the central area of the external surface of the short rim 4 of the container.
The cover has an elongate central rectangular window 12.
In use, a lock of hair is laid in the container, with the open end of the latter near the hair roots.
The hinge element of the cover is then fitted into the hinge sockets of the container. As can be seen in Figure 4, the base of the container is slightly lowered at the open end, in order to allow the lock of hair to pass below the cover after the latter has been inserted into the hinge sockets.
The paste for treating the hair is applied to the lock, and the cover is closed onto the container, being held closed by the rib 10 snapping into the
recess 11.
The colour changes in the hair can be observed through the window 12, so that it is not necessary to open the accessory during treatment.
Further advantages of the accessory according to the present invention, and in particular the possibility of using it for new hair decoloration methods and effects, wili-be immediately apparent to the expert in the art.
The drawings filed with this application show dimensions in millimetres by way of example only.
Claims (5)
