Abstract

Shaping and stretching tubular goods upon cores; calendering.-A machine for calendering tubular fabrics comprises two or three pairs of superimposed heated calendering-cylinders C, Fig. 1, and two expanding gauges K, K<1>, the upper gauge K being carried between adjustable carriages P, Figs. 4 and 6, fitted with positively driven guide rollers R. The gauge K is formed in two parts held in adjusted position on guide bars L by pawls L'. The carriages are adjusted by a right and left hand screw bar U operated by a hand-wheel. The rollers R are geared to a driving shaft Q<1>. Endless belts acting on the sides of the gauge K are driven through bevel gearing S<1> from the shaft Q<1>. Rollers V are provided on the gauge. The gauge K<1> between the first and second pairs of calendering- cylinders may be made in the same manner as the gauge K, or the driven elements may be dispensed with. The fabric is fed over driven guide rollers D', D, pairs of rollers D being arranged batween each pair of calendering-cylinders. After passing through the last pair of cylinders, the fabric may be wound on a baling roller or it may pass to a folding-device. One of each pair of calendering-cylinders is adjusted horizontally by bevel wheel and screw gearing operated by a hand-wheel H. The cylinders are heated by steam, and metal shields may be attached to one or both sides of the machine to retain the heat.
