Abstract

Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-A coke or other oven A is heated on opposite sides by fiameless combustion beds B of refractory material supplied with a mixture of gas and air or oxygen through channels b' from distributing-chambers C. The mixture is produced in tubes D<1> provided with baffles d<3> and supplied with gas and heated air from pipes E, F respectively. Each tube D<1> communicates with a distributing-chamber C through a pipe D at the lower end of which is a non-return valve K held open by a spring to maintain a uniform pressure of the gas mixture and to prevent back-firing. The air is beated in pipes f<2> exposed to gases leaving the furnace by the pipe H. It is stated that at least one of the constituents of the gas mixture may be heated to such a temperature as to cause the gas mixture in the tube D to possess a, temperature much higher than the flash point of the mixture.
