Abstract

Oil switches.-An earthed screen is placed over the live contact of an oil switch after circuit has been broken to prevent current leaking through the oil to portions of the apparatus which should be dead. In the construction shown, the live contact of an isolating switch is enclosed in a semicylindrical casing 28 provided at the top with an aperture through which the switch blade 14, pivoted at 15, passes. Vertical movement of a rod 21 rotates a. three-armed lever 17 thereby lifting the blade 14 and moving the earthed semicylindrical screen 33 to cover the aperture in the casing 28. In a modification, a pivoted earthed screen is provided for each of two contacts that are engaged by a bridging member, and in a further modification, an earthed screen is pivoted into position by an arm on the switch operating-rod engaging a helical groove on a shaft.
