Abstract

Switch mechanism interlocking with lids.-In interlocking switches and plugs the switch consists of a rotatable insulating segment carrying a bridging contact and has a peripheral flange, engaging a locking recess in the plug wall. The switch operating spindle mounted in the lid of a switch casing .carries a pin working in an undercut portion of a member fixed to the casing so that the cover can only be removed when the switch has been brought to the off position. The switch is mounted within the casing 1 and comprises an insulating segment 8 carried by a shaft 7 mounted in bearings 9, 11. The segment 8 carries a peripheral contact strip 14 adapted to bridge fixed contacts 15, 16 when the segment is moved over by the handle 3. This handle is connected to a shaft 5 mounted in the cover 2, the shaft having a flattened end engaging a corresponding recess in the shaft 7. The cylindrical plug 19 is inserted in an opening in the top of the casing 1 and has a flattened side 27, an insulating plate 28 being correspondingly placed in the plug opening to ensure the insertion of the plug in the correct angular position. The shaft 5 carries a pin 37 engaging an undercut portion of the bearing 9, to prevent the cover 2 being removed until the switch is open when the pin 37 can move out through a recess 38. Fuses 29, 30 mounted within the casing 1 are included in each line. The switch and plug are rendered watertight by a rubber ring 40 between the cover 2 and casing 1 and a gland 41 on the plug.
