Abstract
624,820. Oil-break switches. DAVIES, D. R., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. July 9, 1947, No. 18148. [Class 38(v)] The movable contact rod 6 of an isolating or selector switch is readily removable from its operating carrier 9 to permit inspection or replacement, by opening the cover 14 and then unscrewing from the carrier 9 a sleeve 8 in which .is secured an insulating tube 7 supporting the contact 6. A toothed sector 18 engaging teeth on the carrier 9 moves the contact 6 down to bridge socket contacts 3, 4. For testing or earthing purposes, a plate 34, Fig. 4, carrying a contact rod 30 is positioned on the switch casing through the intermediary of insulation 35, so that when the contact 6 is in the upper, open-circuit, position and the rod 30 is lowered, a contact 31 on the rod 30 engages a lug 32 on the contact 6.
